madrasapattinam

madrasapattinam is a tamil movie showing "madras of 1947" with a beautiful love story entwined :)

this movie is about Amy Wilkinsen coming to British ruled Madrasapatinam, falling in love with a local washerman- Parithi, how she avenges her fiancee and helps save the life of her lover .She returns sixty years later to find out astounding changes in "madrasapattinam" to find that Parithi has become a great philanthropist, and done everything she wanted to do had she become the Governor...

the beauty of the erstwhile Madras captured in huge sets seem so real that i wish i lived during that era.My favorite is the tram and The Buckingham Canal -Cooum which had been pristine then.

Its a relishing feat for the eyes of CHENNAI LOVERS.the city has changed by leaps and bounds in the sixty years.
well the movie is reminiscent of TITANIC at many places but has more desi feeling :)

the attempt of the director has to be appreciated.
Great care has been taken to show erst while Chennai as it had been then..well one small doubt after noticing Amy's fingers-"was French manicure available then?"
Arya's acting is good. The most enjoyable was the First half and the romancing scenes..

My personal favorite is amy asking "maranthitiya" before the start of the song "Pookal Pookum".
Music is the backbone for this film.Special mention of RR -its surreal.
A movie which is emotive, simple and makes u want to believe in nascent, true and innocent Love ..

I am proud that I have fallen in Love once again with 'Chennai/Madras'...
Love U Chennai
